A Fight Against Hunger

‘80s Ice is proud to announce that we are partnering with the Butler Area School District and the Kids’ Weekend Backpack Program.  ‘80s Ice will donate 10% of its sales to the program to support the fight against hunger.

Though hard to imagine, many students in the Butler Area School District (BASD) return home every day after school to a house with little or no food supplies.  While the students may receive breakfast and lunch at school during the week, they may be limited on how much they have to eat on weekends and holidays when away from school.

The Kids’ Weekend Backpack Program assists students in Grades K-5 in the BASD who are in need of weekend food supplies. Each student in the program receives a plastic bag each Friday packed with two breakfast items, four entrée items, and a variety of five additional single-serving items. The bags are delivered to the students' homerooms and discreetly placed in their book bags.  The food selections are items that include proteins, whole grains, fruits, and dairy products.

The program, sponsored by The Golden Tornado Scholastic Foundation, Inc. and currently in its ninth year, is 100% funded by donations.  During the 2022-2023 school year more than $80,000 was used to buy items from local food banks and discount retailers to provide for hundreds of BASD children. Every donation, no matter how big or how small, can make a difference in the lives of the children in our school district.

‘80s Ice is looking forward to working with the Kids’ Weekend Backpack Program to ensure its continued success. For more information on the program, or to learn how to donate, please click on the button below.
